Little Streghetta & Topo

(Little Witch & Mouse in Italian.)

Little Streghetta is a quaint little witch who lives in a comfortable mossy Oak stump in the shadow of an inviting grove of hardwoods at Honeysuckle Hollow Farm.  This evening in the dusky half light of the rustling forest, she and her friend Topo ramble quietly along and overgrown path that winds through the trees, trying to hear the forests’ secrets.  Their companionable silence is broken when little Topo stumbles upon a rusty old bell nestled among the russet and gold leaves on the forest floor.  He twitches his whiskers and gives it to his friend.  Little Streghetta smiles, tears a strip from the hem of her homespun skirt and ties her found treasure around her neck.  “It must have fallen off the shoe of one of the Honeysuckle Humans” she muses.  Topo pauses to look up at Little Streghetta and admire her new necklace.  “Thank you Topo” smiles the good little witch as they continue upon their wanderings in the crisp autumn air.

Little Streghetta is the first doll in my new line of "Stump Folks".  These dolls are smaller and less intricate than my larger dolls, therefore making them more affordable and accessible to anyone rather than just to those who have an expendable income.  I believe that everyone should be able to purchase something that brings delight and a little bit of whimsy into their lives and homes.

Emma is the second doll in my "Stump Folks" series.  Emma is a stump doll who stands freely on her own.  Weighted with walnut shells, she is a wee 10".   She is made from aged, sanded and waxed muslin and has stitched, aged cotton string facial features.  Her arms are made from waxed twigs.  Her shirt is made from aged muslin with cotton string gathers at the wrist.  Her apron, skirt and bonnet are made from hand dyed  calico cotton  in shades of tan, wheat and spun gold.  Her skirt is gathered at the waist and has an aged muslin sash and aged cotton string tie.  Her bonnet was inspired by my friend Jean of BlueJean Primtives.  She carries her very special Bible made from aged black wool felt and aged muslin.
